7 Ways to Use Facebook in your job search. Are you overlooking FaceBook?

While I don't recommend Facebook as a place to 'hunt' for jobs, I'm curious if you feel Facebook can be valuable in your job search?
I'm sure you have heard the horror stories of how Facebook can cost you a job, but not being on FB is a big mistake.
Here are 7 Ways to Utilize Facebook in your job search
#1 I am big believer that you can never have enough friends in your job search. A friend will do more to help you then anyone else in the world. The definition of a friend has changed by 2010 terms. People you meet on Facebook are friends that can help you in your job search. Recently I had FB friend tell me about a woman from his church. I created a position for her just based on his recommendation. Lots of jobs go to friends of friends and never get posted.
#2 Save $300 a year by Skipping the LinkedIn paid account.
LinkedIn only allows you email your first degree contacts which keeps the spammers out of here. What to do you if you find a third degree connection you want to communicate with? Why pay $25 for 3 inmails a month when you can just look the person up on Facebook and email them anytime.
#3 Being on Facebook shows you are current. I use to be an IT recruiter in the 90s and when I got a resume from a programmer by fax I instantly wondered how good can this IT guy be if he is not using email. The same principal applies to Facebook for most business professions.
#4 Social Media is an unwritten desired skill in every job description. Every company needs social media talent throughout their ranks. Social Media is a common topic in many interviews. If you are on FB and know how to use it for business you differentiate yourself and stand out from the crowd.
#5 Relationship Building - My best clients are the ones I have personal raport with. All those personal updates that bore you are the real stuff that makes business happen. Break the ice by commenting on something personal you saw your interviewer doing a month ago on FB, that shows your due diligence.
#6 Demonstrating Your Values - I see you play with your kids on the weekends just like me, so you must be someone I can trust. Trust is golden. All job seekers look the same on page, when you can dimensionalize yourself you stand out from the crowd.
#7 Employers are recruiting through real time search, fanpages and paid advertisements on facebook. Include your professional keywords in your Facebook profile so you can BeFound on Facebook.
BONUS: Industry specific Facebook skills are in huge demand. If you need to reinvent yourself this is the time and place to do it. Become a Facebook expert in your industry and land a corporate job or consulting gig.
Most important FB is fun!
